What is a Professional Company

The right legal form for regulated professional practice in Saudi Arabia.

Some professions cannot operate as an ordinary commercial company. Law, audit, engineering, and other regulated practices need a Professional Company. The structure designed for licensed work, recognised by both MISA and the relevant professional regulator.

01

Built for licensed practice

Designed for professions that need both a MISA licence and recognition by a sector regulator.

02

Sector-specific approvals

Different professions sit under different regulators (Saudi Bar, SOCPA, Saudi Council of Engineers). We navigate them.

03

Saudi participation where required

Some regulated professions require a Saudi licensed professional in the structure. We confirm this for your profession before filing.

Built for regulated practice.

Law firms

International and regional firms opening a Saudi office under the Saudi Bar Association rules.

Engineering consultancies

Practices recognised by the Saudi Council of Engineers, across design, MEP, civil, and project work.

Quick answers on the Professional Company route.

Which professions can use this structure?
Law, accounting and audit, engineering, architecture, and similar licensed professions. The exact list and conditions depend on the sector regulator.
Do I need a Saudi licensed professional in the company?
Some regulated professions do. Law, audit, and some engineering disciplines require Saudi participation in defined ways. We confirm the requirement for your profession and structure it before filing.
Is this the same as a normal MISA licence?
It uses a MISA licence as the foundation, with additional sector approvals layered on top. We manage both in parallel.
Can I bring my international team to the Saudi practice?
Yes, subject to professional eligibility. Most regulated bodies require home-jurisdiction qualifications. We work with you to map credentials and licensing.
How long does setup take?
Typically 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the profession. Sector approvals can take longer than the MISA timeline on their own, so we run them in parallel.
Can the firm trade non-professional services as well?
Generally no. A Professional Company is scoped to the licensed profession. If you need both regulated and non-regulated services, we may recommend a sister entity.
